The Future of Vital Signs Monitoring

Key Areas of Medical Need

The VitalStream is a wireless patient monitoring platform. Its ability to collect data from other BLE-capable devices, including weighing scales, glucose meters, insulin pumps and fall detectors means it has a broad sweeping clinical application. Different medical professionals can benefit from VitalStream, they include Personal Wellness, Sleep Studies, Veterinary Medicine, Oral Surgery etc. However, we are initially focusing on three key areas:

1. Non-Invasive Haemodynamic Monitoring

On average 30% of ICU patients, with continuous blood pressure monitoring use an invasive arterial catheter, which is uncomfortable and has significant complication rates, these include infection, occlusion, sepsis etc. (See diagram).

The VitalStream’s low-cost, real-time, beat-by-beat BP and HR wireless patient monitoring is a tested solution, reducing risk, patient discomfort and costs.

2. Remote Home Care “Telemedicine”

In 2018, there were approximately seven million telemedicine patients worldwide – this market is worth $4.5 billion (see diagram). Hospitals must monitor patients after they are discharged to mitigate re-admission. The adoption of digital tablets, connectivity and cloud data creates patients’ expectations for ongoing connectivity with their clinician. VitalStream can easily be sent home with a patient to track and report their vital signs efficiently and securely.

3. Wireless “Connected Patient” Hospital Vital Sign Monitoring

The global market for vital sign monitors is $3.15billion, growing at 6.6% CAGR, currently still dominated by traditional monitors. Many hospitals are ready to upgrade/replace traditional bedside monitors. Traditional monitors connect to central nurses’ stations but are wall or pole-mounted and connect to the patient using wires, leads and hoses.

The VitalStream wireless monitoring uses a finger cuff and wrist-mounted transmitter, allowing complete mobility and continuous monitoring even as the patient moves between hospital departments. Studies completed in wireless patient monitoring can confirm that it can reduce hospital costs and improve patient outcomes. VitalStream can also reduce hospital liability by keeping patients monitored pre-admission while waiting for a bed etc.
